Soccer drill procedure

Before the final shot at goal, we require our players to play a combination of passes, on a change-and-change about basis from both sides. This is an ideal procedure to encourage soccer skills with both feet; shots on goal from the left are to be carried out with the left foot and vice versa from the right side. This procedure should be trained initially from one side only at a time, and it should be taken into consideration, that the players are required to switch-over mentally because the play is always reversed from left to right, and from right to left. Of course, patience is required in the organisation, but when this sort of training is persisted with, the results can be fantastic.

Description

A start line is set up in midfield between both the goals, and the players in each of the two groups are given one ball only. There are then two other lines somewhat distant from each goal and these indicate the next position on the right- and left hand sides. There is also a further position marked with a line somewhat further away from the goals than these. The next players in turn take up position on this line on the left and on the right. Further out on the left and the right are the players coming after them, and these are also positioned on a marking line. Before each of the actual goals, we have set up a smaller temporary framework goal and the final pass before the shot on goal has to pass through this frame.

There is a lane marked out from the start line towards the goal line in which the combination passing game is to be played. The ball is to be passed from the starting player straight forward goalwards to the next position. The player receiving the ball, traps the ball or passes it back to the passer. Then, the ball is passed straight onwards on to the next position. The player receiving the pass then dribbles with the ball to the temporary framework goal in front of the actual goal on his side and passes the ball through the frame to the playing starting from the last position. This player then shoots at goal.

After this action, the players always changeover to the next position.
